SATURN 2017

Note:               Most images on this page are "clickable" and will open up as "full scale images" in a new tab.

For various reasons the overall quality of our Saturn images for 2017 did not quite live up to those from the previous few years: poorer seeing conditions & perhaps less concentration upon Saturn imaging than previously meant we did not image enough times to get those outstanding results we had achieved previously - the more often you image any planet the more likely you are to get some excellent results, it really is a "numbers" game...but nevertheless several very nice images were still captured! J

The following represents the better images, starting from those taken later in the apparition down to those taken when this planet was lower in the sky earlier in the apparition - & generally with more challenging conditions overall: the usual details in the form of light & dark spots were captured at times but it is probably true to say that they were not as prominent in these images as per previous years...perhaps because of the combination of fewer high-quality images, as well as (possibly) Saturn not being so active in this respect...or able to be detected in amateur telescopes.
