A view of Jupiter

Here we see the Oval
BA (aka “Red Spot Junior) as well as Io transiting Jupiter plus a bright spot
in the Northern Equatorial Belt. Io’s dark poles
are clearly seen in this image. Individual
filter (monochrome) images follow of this night’s imaging. |

Jupiter with the
GRS “setting” and Ganymede’s shadow transiting with the moon itself
approaching transit. (2 images one shortly
after the other) This is followed
by several monochrome images around the same time period. |

A series of monochrome
and colour images from this night where festoons and streamers emanating from
the NEB can be seen
across the EZ of Jove. A lot of details
and activity can be seen throughout the disk of Jupiter in these images. |

The red filter image
and subsequent colour image from this night. As can be seen
in the red filter image, the seeing was not particularly good on this night
but a reasonable amount of detail was still able to be evinced from the final
colour outcome. |

Plenty of
festoons in the EZ of Jupiter in this image, a few very long. Tens of
thousands of kilometres long in the one that appears like a giant tadpole. |

An animation and
single image below that reveal a lot of activity in Jupiter’s belts with some
spectacular activity in
those “breaker-like” structures on the Northern edge of the North Equatorial
Belt. (NEB) |

White Europa transiting
across Jupiter’s face with Ganymede and Io out to the right. As the text in
the image says, Europa’s shadow can just be seen entering across Jupiter’s
face also to the left and
just a bit higher than Europa – it looks like a very slight “nick” in Jove’s
limb/edge, but you’ll have to look hard! |

4 images showing
Jupiter over about a 15 minute timespan. In these images
the Northern Temperate Belt (NTB) appears very thin indeed. |
|
Here the
WinJUPOS software allows us to construct North & South Pole views of
Jupiter from the images above. The first
is an “inverted” image which does make some details more apparent. |
|
|
|
|
|
In the
image below WinJUPOS was used to combine numerous stacks (single images) from this night
to produce a somewhat more detailed outcome. The
following image from the same night was where we caught Ganymede just before
it passed
into Jupiter’s shadow on that part of its’ orbit where it goes behind
Jupiter. Ganymede is being “eclipsed” by Jupiter
in these very regular occurrences as we can see very clearly in the enlarged
inset in this
image. Because the Sun is shining from the left side with respect to this
image, Jupiter’s shadow is cast to
the right somewhat and why Ganymede begins its eclipse before it actually
moves behind Jupiter. |

approaches Jupiter with its shadow already “in transit.” Monochrome
